Become a Member

Full Membership

Full membership costs only £20 a month (though we’re happy to accept more if you can spare it!), and entitles you to access any day of the week, use of all our equipment and further discounts. Once you’ve established yourself as a trusted member, you’ll get a key to permit 24×7 access to the space.

Poor Hackers

We understand that many of you – particularly those currently unemployed, studying, or in low-income employment – cannot afford £20+ per month. Poor hacker members are considered exactly the same as regular members, including keyholder status. We work on an honesty system with this – please pay more if you can. We have a minimum subscription of £10 per month for this – get in touch with info@buildbrighton.com to discuss if you genuinely cannot afford even this.

Occasional Hackers

We know a lot of you have families, jobs, or other very good reasons that mean that you can only come to the hackspace infrequently – making a full subscription hard to justify. We’re happy to accept membership at levels lower than defined above – every little helps – but please understand that at these levels keyholder rights are discretional. Get in touch with info@buildbrighton.com to discuss.

Kids

We are no longer accepting child membership. Some of our equipment is dangerous, and our insurance does not cover members for any damage they may cause to themselves in the process of using it – you are expected to know how to safely and responsibly use equipment and as a result accept your own liability for its use. We cannot assume the same with minors unfortunately.

We are happy for members to bring children into the hackspace to help them learn skills, but please understand that they are your responsibility and must be supervised accordingly, and that the hackspace is an adult-oriented environment with risks, dangers, and potentially bad influences.

We are currently looking into the legal situation with minors of age 16+, if you have knowledge in this area please get in touch. We also run workshops where children are permitted, get in touch for more information. We’re also considering starting a Junior Hackspace Club, get in touch if you are interested in being involved.
