Please add an entry to this page whenever you use the laser, it give us an idea of the problems we're facing with it, when it's used, and just general notes.

Please try to include a rough idea of how long you used it for (laser time, not actual time), and what you did. General free-form text is fine. If you did something cool, mention it, as folk may want to grab SVGs from you.

Add new entries above existing ones.

March 18th 2012 - Emma

  • 3mm pastry
  • Cut it on a wooden chopping board so had to take out the bed
  • 20mA power at 100%

For cutting:

  • 50% speed
  • 3 passes

For engraving:

  • 100% speed
  • 1 pass

Pastry leaves in the laser Pastry leaves cooked and ready to eat

March 8th 2012 - Toby

  • 55mm thick sponge from poundland.
  • Took out honeycomb bed, had about 2cm clearance from lens
  • 8 passes
  • 100% speed
  • 10mA power

Lego hand parts, cut from sponges. Lego hand parts, glued.

Feb 26th 2012 - Sam

  • Perspex feather with raster engraving.
  • 3mm green tinted Perspex, 6 turns, 25% speed, 2reps.
  • Engraving was 3.5 turns, 100% speed.
  • I had problems for ages getting the engrave and cut to line up, but in the end discovered it was a margin issue in Inkscape - my images were too close to the edge of the page.

Feb 23rd 2012 - Ash

  • 110x75x70mm box from boxmaker[1] with 4mm clear acryllic. Took about 30 minutes of laser time. (15mA, 25% Speed, 3 reps)

Dec 13th - Toby

  • Secret Xmas Presents :)
  • Offcuts of Silver 3-4mm Acrylic
  • 30% speed, 3 passes, 14mA

Dec 13th - Toby

Kitten portrait in acrylic felt

  • Felt portrait of a kitten, traced in Inkscape
  • Black felt with wonderweb ironed on back
  • 1000% speed, 1 pass, 8mA

Wed Dec 7th - Toby

Space Invaders in Crêpe paper.

  • Crêpe paper, 4 layers.
  • 100%, 4.5mA 1 pass

Tue 29th November - Toby

Black acrylic felt for Moustaches.

Tried cutting with double sided tape on part, absorbed too much of the laser. Worked better with tape on the underside.
  • Two passes at 8mA, 100%.

Off-white paper/thin card.

  • 100%, 8mA 1 pass

Fri 18th November - Rev Dave / Rev Neil

  • Laser cut a sheet of Acrylic & a piece of MDF to fix door of Fridge
  • 7mA, 30% Speed. Almost all the way through, finished with Stanley Knife and Grinding Wheel

Sat 25th June - Mike

Laser cut several sheets acrylic - made case for Arduino Mega + BreadBoards, 3x 'jigsaw' Maker Faire logos; gave Laser Training.

30% speed, 100% power, 14mA, 2 passes seems about right for 3mm acrylic.

Laser ran for about 30 mins total I'd say.

Sat 25th June - Toby

Etched Macbook (raster).

Fri 8th June - Toby/Mike

  • Steak Vector cut.
  • First tried at 13mA, 30% speed. Almost cut all the way through
  • Image above was at 11mA, 60% speed.
